WMS XC: Last Few Weeks' Overview

Hi Everyone,

Monday 10/16:

We'll be taking a small crew to The Carlisle Invitational.  Boys race at 3:30 and girls at 3:50 at Great Brook Farm in Carlisle.

For those not attending, we will not have practice that day.

Tue 10/17: Practice

Thursday 10/19:

We will be having our meet at Hanscom Middle School.  Unfortunately, due to it being held on-base we will not be having spectators for the meet.

Friday 10/20: Practice

Monday10/23:

Last Day of Practice for those not attending the State Meet (See Below)

Tuesday 10/24:

Our final dual meet of the season at home vs. Lincoln

Thursday 10/26: Practice for those attending State Meet

Friday 10/27: 

The Annual DQ Run!

Permission slips must be signed to participate in the run to Dairy Queen

Massachusetts Middle School State Invitational - full information can be found here under "2023 Mass. MIDDLE SCHOOL Cross Country Championships".  This is an optional event with both a team championship race as well as individual grade races, and we are hoping to enter a full team for both Championship races this year. Coaches will be in attendance. Parents will have to register for and transport to/from the meet (or a few savvy parents with a knack for coordinating).  If you/your child are interested please fill out this google form

Carlisle Invitational Info

 Hi Everyone,

We're very excited for Monday's Carlisle Invitational!  We've confirmed with Admin that attending student-athletes will be dismissed at 1:45 from School (missing the last 20 min of their 2nd to last block and all of last block) and we will be sure to remind to check in with their teachers regarding any missed work.

2023 Carlisle Cross Country Invitational

Monday, October 16th

Great Brook Farm, Carlisle, Ma

The  schedule for the day is as follows: 3:30 Varsity Boys 3:50 Varsity Girls

For Parents:

Parking is extremely limited so please car pool. In addition, the park charges a parking fee that will be collected when cars enter the lot.  

Spectators are encouraged to support all runners.  It is important that the course remain clear for all runners. Do not block the starting or finishing area as these areas get the most crowded. Keep to the side of all trails.  Please plan on arriving with plenty of time to park as to not miss your child's race.  Be sure to know if they are running varsity or JV.

Coaches will call their driver at the end of the event and ask that they return to pick-up runners at the same location.

For Runners

Runners should plan on using the porta potties for the bathroom to be set up near the runner's staging area.

Course Description:  The course distance is 1.95 miles and has varied terrain including trails with stones and roots.  Sections of the course include rolling hills.  Course Map

Short 1/4“ spikes may be used, but non-spiked shoes are adequate.

For starters, we have a Schedule Change next week.  Our meet vs. Lexington Clarke has been moved from Thursday to Tuesday 10/10.  Next week's full schedule:

• Monday 10/9 - No School - No Practice
• Tuesday 10/10 - Home meet vs. Lexington Clarke - girls race then boys
• Update: Clarke should arrive around 3:30-3:45, we'll be expecting to start about 15 minutes after they arrive
• Wednesday 10/11 - No Practice
• Thursday 10/12 - Practice 3:30-4:45
• Friday 10/13 - Practice 3:30-4:45

On Monday 10/16 we have The Prestigious Carlisle Invitational.  Attending will be:

The Carlisle Invitional & Week to come

 Hi Everyone, 

Coming up on Monday, October 16th, we will be attending The Prestigious Carlisle Invitational.  This is a larger, roughly 18 team, highly competitive meet.  That being said, there are limited entries, 8 varsity runners for boys and girls teams.  The first race of the day starts at 3:30, meaning those who are attending would have to leave school early, missing about a block-block and a half.  

We will be deciding rosters for the Invitational this coming week, following the meet at Acton.  Entries will finalize on October 6, so if your child is unable to participate, let us know as soon as possible.  

 

Also, another reminder to make sure you've paid the registration fee, we still have a number of outstanding payments.

Sudbury (Curtis Middle) Meet - 9/28

Curtis has let us know that they should be arriving around 4:00.  We then should be able to get an abbreviated course tour and warmup, hopefully starting the boys around 4:15-4:30 with the girls to follow.

Carlisle Dual Meet - Tues. 9/26

Hi Everyone, 

For our meet today, we will be at the Banta Davis Land, 304 Bedford Rd, Carlisle, MA 01741

The Course will be well marked, so we anticipate arriving, warming up, and getting started not too long after we get there.  The races will run concurrently, with the boys race starting about 5 minutes before the girls.

Monday 9/18 Cancelled & Week 2

 Hi Everyone, 

Unfortunately, the school has cancelled practice for us again today (9/18).

This week's Schedule:

Monday 9/18 - Practice Cancelled

Tuesday 9/19 - Home meet vs. Weston

     Weston being nearby, we'd hope for a start time around 4pm

     Girls will race first, followed by boys, hoping to wrap up about 5:15-5:30

Wednesday 9/20 - No Practice 

     Varsity home meet vs. Waltham @ High School, 4:30

     They would love some support!

Thursday 9/21 - Away Meet @ Watertown

•      Watertown Middle School, 68 Waverley Ave, Watertown, MA 02472
•      Bus will Depart around 3:50. With buses and likely traffic, hopefully start around 4:45 and be back at Wayland MS around 6:30-7:00
•      Please Email coaches if you plan to pickup from the meet - Notify a coach before you leave the meet
•      You Must Include Athletics Assistant (erin_ryan@waylandps.org), both parents, and coaches for your child to go home with someone else's parents 24 hrs. before meet - Notify a coach before you leave the meet
